[Jill really should have messaged Karlach first to see if the other woman was even home at this time of day, but her mind has been in a fog of schoolgirlish happiness these last few days and that fog has her completely forgetting her noble lady training. It shows in all her delicate featuresβthe giddy flush of her pale skin, the way she hops from one foot to another in excitement, the easy smile that reaches her eyes that seemingly has no direct cause. The behavior would have gotten her a good scolding from the Duchy governesses. One should be able to control their emotions with the stiffest of upper lips.
But once in a while, such behavior is forgivable, especially knowing Jill has had little in life to be jubilant about. At least it hasn't ended up with Jill neglecting her one week bear turnaround promise and thus, she's rapping lightly on the large mansion's front door.
Hopefully Karlach is not only at home, but nearby to hear the ever so polite sound in this grand place.]
( as luck would have it, karlach has been staying a little closer to home as of late. or almost entirely at home. the last couple of days hadn't been particularly easy and she didn't imagine they were going to get any easier. not anytime soon.
that and it did her good to take a break every now and again.
or so karlach has been telling herself.
all of that is immediately forgotten at the sound of a gentle hand at the door. much like a pet dog, she perks up instantly, visibly brightening at the notion of a visitor. all other concerns thrown to the wind. by the time she actually opens the door, karlach is already smiling. )
Jill!! What brings you here?
( karlach exclaims, her smile breaking out into a wide grin. )
No, unfortunately not. I've run out of catnip, so don't tell them I'm visiting.
[Bluetooth would be saddened to hear about the catnip and tell all the other cats here how she's been suffering in Jill's care.
The idea of it makes Jill's smile even bigger, but she shakes her head and continues on with her original mission.]
That said, I do have something animal-like for you.
[She holds out a small brown paper wrapped package. It's soft and squishy, tied with red and black ribbon that matches the decoration around the gift's neck.]
( she starts, ready to make a comment about how the cats probably knew that jill had arrived before karlach did. warrior cats didn't exactly have an "off mode", so they were always on duty. regardless of time of day. it's incredibly cute.
but karlach's attention shifts to the offered package as soon as jill brings it out, unable to finish the remark. )
Whoa! Incredible! You got it done so fast!
( she exclaims, reaching out to take the package from jill.
without any ceremony, she's already ripping into the package to excitedly pull out the bear. )
[Now they're both full of excitement, each for their own reason, and it's probably a bit too much for anybody miserable looking for fellow company.
With her hands empty, Jill places them behind her back as she rocks on her heels looking proud of her little endeavor. She's never made a toy before, mostly using her sewing skills on handkerchiefs and to mend torn items, but the itch to make another one is there. Jill just needs to find someone else in need of a fuzzy friend.]
A he, hmm? Have you picked a name already or will you wait for him to tell you it first?
( karlach says as she lifts up the plush in her large hands, inspecting its face carefully. the name will come to her, she just knows it. the bear's face will surely tell her.
then it hits her. )
I think. . . Yeah, I think he looks like a Benjamin!
Well then, I hope Benjamin enjoys his new home. Seems like he's already finding his comfort.
[She glances behind Karlach, eyes on the other woman's wave. No one else is there it seems. No one else but the cats, perhaps.]
If you insist.
[Not that Karlach actually was insisting, but Jill has nothing set for the rest of the day and wouldn't it be rude to just drop the gift and run? The least she can do is stay for a cup of tea or something.]
( as luck would have it, the house is currently empty. or it's what karlach would consider it to be empty. her sole housemate is currently locked away in his self-fashioned study and is unlikely to re-emerge any time soon. but that's normal for gale.
wizards need their alone time.
karlach helps guide jill inside of the home, directing her down their entrance hallway and into the big open space of their living room. the place is finely decorated, exquisite in ways that make it abundantly clear that it wasn't by the efforts of the barbarian. )
Take a seat! I'd give you a tour, but that might take all day. This place is pretty big.
( a beat. and suddenly karlach is really excited to ask her next question. )
Can I get you a drink or something?
( how long has it been since she had gotten to ask a guest that? or even had a guest over? )
[Are wizards truly alone when their tressyms are by their side? Or do talking and flying catlike creatures not count?]
No, no need. I've been here before, besides.
[Back when it used to belong to Astarion and he threw a housewarming party where she made her appearance with a meat and cheese platter and one distasteful book he recommended to her that she managed to slip into his library. Idly, she wonders if it's still there.]
Some tea would do, if you have it. If not, water.
[A simple request. Jill doesn't want to look greedy, not when she has something else to ask of Karlach when the timing is right.]
Yeah? Did you come for the big shindig I heard they threw here?
( while it hadn't been something that karlach had been here for, she had heard about it from her wizard companion. it had sounded like a great time. too bad she missed out! maybe they'll have to throw another party to make up for it sometime!
it isn't like they don't have the space for it.
karlach briefly vanishes into the kitchen, returning with a mug and a teabag. she lingers near jill, not yet handing it over as she holds it against her palms. the water within quickly begins to boil and karlach places the hot mug down on the nearby table to let it brew. )
Yes. I've never been to a housewarming party before. It was rather entertaining.
[Honestly, they really should throw another, if not for Jill who actually enjoys socializing opportunities. She'd be the first one to arrive if she got invited.
She spends the time she's left to her devices while Karlach disappears into the kitchen, perusing the decor, only to find herself laughing at how she really did expect the other woman to return with a teapot from the hearth, not being the hearth herself.]
Is that what they refer to as a party trick?
[In the back of Jill's mind, there's a little voice that mentions how comfortable Karlach seems to be with using her powers for any old task and maybe one Jill can try it too. Once she gets over her trauma of being forced to use her magick against her will and the fear of the resulting curse, that is.]
( while karlach hadn't been around for it, she had heard plenty about what she missed from her housemate and friend, gale. it seemed like it had been a shame she missed it! with a house this big, they really should find more ways to fill it with friends and acquaintances.
she grins over at jill. )
I like to think of it as "practical". What fire is gonna be better than my own?
